How Long Are Cats Pregnant?
Last reviewed October 2026 · Based on 2 published veterinary sources (listed below)

Cats are pregnant for about 9 weeks — usually 63 to 67 days, with a normal range of roughly 61 to 72 days. Cats can get pregnant as young as 4 to 6 months old, which is why early spaying is recommended.
Signs your cat is pregnant
- Pink, enlarged nipples ('pinking up') around week 3
- Gradual weight gain and a rounder belly
- Increased appetite
- Nesting behaviour in the final week
- A vet can confirm with ultrasound from about 3 weeks or x-ray after about 6 weeks
Preparing
- See your vet to confirm pregnancy and plan care
- Switch to a kitten or growth formula food as advised
- Set up a quiet, warm nesting box
- Don't give flea or deworming products without vet approval
Call a vet during labour if
- Strong straining for 30 to 60 minutes with no kitten
- More than 2 to 3 hours between kittens
- Green or bloody discharge before the first kitten
- Mother seems weak, collapses or is in distress
