Can Dogs Eat Raspberries?
Last reviewed October 2026 · Based on 2 published veterinary sources (listed below)

Yes — small amounts
Yes. Fresh raspberries are low in sugar and high in fibre, making them a good occasional treat. They contain very small amounts of naturally occurring xylitol, which is why portions should stay small — a few berries, not a bowlful.
How much
A few berries for a small dog, up to a small handful for a large dog. Don't make it a daily habit.
Avoid
- Raspberry jam, syrup or baked goods
- Sugar-free raspberry products — may contain added xylitol, which is very dangerous
- Large amounts — can cause diarrhea
How to share it safely
- Treats, including fruit, should stay under about 10% of daily calories.
- Wash it and serve it plain — no sugar, syrup, salt or seasoning.
- Start with a small piece and watch for stomach upset over 24 hours.
- Skip it if your dog is diabetic, overweight or on a vet-prescribed diet.
