Puppy Vaccination Schedule in Canada

Puppies get a series of core vaccines every 3 to 4 weeks from about 6 to 8 weeks of age until at least 16 weeks, then boosters. Rabies vaccination is required by law in much of Canada. Your vet will tailor the exact schedule to your puppy and where you live.

Typical core schedule

  • 6–8 weeks: DA2PP (distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, parvovirus)
  • 10–12 weeks: DA2PP booster
  • 14–16 weeks: DA2PP booster (final puppy dose at 16 weeks or later)
  • 12–16 weeks: Rabies (timing set by provincial rules)
  • 12–16 months: DA2PP and rabies boosters
  • Adults: core boosters every 1 to 3 years, depending on vaccine and vet advice

Lifestyle (non-core) vaccines

  • Leptospirosis — common recommendation in much of Canada, especially near water, wildlife or rural areas
  • Bordetella (kennel cough) — for dogs that visit daycare, boarding, groomers or parks
  • Lyme disease — in areas with blacklegged ticks, such as parts of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and Manitoba

Before vaccines are complete

  • Avoid dog parks and places with unknown dogs
  • Socialize with healthy, vaccinated dogs you know
  • Puppy classes that require proof of vaccination are usually fine

Typical costs

Costs vary a lot by province and clinic. Ask your vet for a written estimate for the full puppy series.
