Can Dogs Eat Strawberries?
Yes — in moderation
Yes. Fresh, washed strawberries are safe for most dogs. They're low in calories and contain fibre and vitamin C. Their natural sugar means they should stay an occasional treat.
How much
One or two sliced berries for a small dog, a few for a large dog. Cut them up for small breeds to avoid choking.
Avoid
- Canned or syrup-packed strawberries
- Strawberry desserts, jam, yogurt with xylitol
- Large amounts — can cause diarrhea
How to share it safely
- Treats, including people food, should stay under about 10% of daily calories.
- Offer plain food only — no salt, butter, sugar, spices, onion or garlic.
- Start with a small piece and watch for stomach upset over 24 hours.
- Skip it entirely if your dog has a medical diet or a condition your vet is managing.
