Can Dogs Eat Raisins?

No — potentially deadly

No. Raisins are dried grapes and carry the same risk of acute kidney injury — weight for weight they may be more concentrated. There is no known safe amount. Watch for hidden raisins in cookies, bagels, granola, trail mix, hot cross buns and fruitcake.

Symptoms

  • Vomiting within hours (often with raisins visible)
  • Lethargy and loss of appetite
  • Belly pain
  • Reduced or no urine in later stages

What to do if your dog ate it

  • Remove what's left and note how much was eaten and when.
  • Call your vet, an emergency clinic or a pet poison hotline right away.
  • Don't induce vomiting unless a vet tells you to.
  • Bring the packaging to the clinic.

Treatment

Vets usually induce vomiting, give activated charcoal, and run IV fluids for at least 48 hours while checking kidney values. Outcomes are much better when treatment starts before symptoms.
