Which Fruits Can Dogs Eat?
Some yes, some never
Many fruits make good low-calorie treats, but a few are dangerous. When in doubt, skip it and check with your vet.
Generally safe (plain, in moderation)
- Apples (no core or seeds)
- Bananas
- Blueberries
- Strawberries
- Watermelon (no seeds or rind)
- Cantaloupe
- Pears (no core)
- Mango (no pit)
Avoid
- Grapes, raisins, currants — kidney failure
- Cherries — pits contain cyanide compounds and cause blockages
- Avocado — persin, high fat, pit blockage
- Fruit pits and cores in general
- Fruit products with xylitol or heavy sugar
How to share it safely
- Treats, including people food, should stay under about 10% of daily calories.
- Offer plain food only — no salt, butter, sugar, spices, onion or garlic.
- Start with a small piece and watch for stomach upset over 24 hours.
- Skip it entirely if your dog has a medical diet or a condition your vet is managing.
