Can Dogs Eat Garlic?
No — toxic
No. Garlic belongs to the same family as onions and is several times more concentrated. It can damage red blood cells and cause anemia in dogs and cats. Garlic powder, garlic bread and garlic-seasoned leftovers are common sources. Despite online claims, garlic is not a safe flea remedy.
Symptoms
- Vomiting, diarrhea, drooling
- Lethargy and weakness
- Pale gums, fast breathing
- Dark or reddish urine, often days later
What to do if your dog ate it
- Remove any remaining food and note roughly how much was eaten and when.
- Call your vet, an emergency clinic, or a pet poison hotline right away — before symptoms start.
- Do not make your dog vomit unless a vet tells you to. It can cause harm with some substances.
- Bring the packaging with you if you go to the clinic.
