Can Dogs Eat Blueberries?
Yes
Yes. Blueberries are safe for dogs, small enough to use as training treats, and low in calories. Fresh or plain frozen both work.
Serving size
A handful for a medium dog is plenty. For tiny dogs, a few berries. Frozen berries can be a choking risk for small dogs gulping food — thaw or squash them.
Avoid
- Blueberry muffins, pies and pancakes (sugar, fat, sometimes xylitol)
- Dried blueberries with added sugar
How to share it safely
- Treats, including people food, should stay under about 10% of daily calories.
- Offer plain food only — no salt, butter, sugar, spices, onion or garlic.
- Start with a small piece and watch for stomach upset over 24 hours.
- Skip it entirely if your dog has a medical diet or a condition your vet is managing.
