Can Cats Eat Cheese?
Last reviewed October 2026 · Based on 2 published veterinary sources (listed below)

Tiny amounts only
Cheese is not toxic, but it's high in fat and salt and many cats don't digest dairy well. A pea-sized piece of hard cheese to hide a pill is usually fine. Skip it if your cat gets diarrhea, has kidney disease or is overweight.
Avoid
- Cheese with garlic, onion or chives
- Blue cheese and other moldy cheeses
- Large or daily portions
