How do I get rid of fleas on my dog?

Use a vet-recommended flea treatment (chewable, spot-on or collar) on every pet in the home. Never use dog products on cats, since some are toxic to them.

Treat the home too: wash bedding in hot water, vacuum daily for a couple of weeks, and empty the vacuum outside. Fleas have a life cycle, so it often takes 6–8 weeks of steady treatment to clear an infestation.
